I found myself traveling to Lebanon, Tennessee to do a bit of hiking at Long Hunter State Park while my traveling companions, Donielle and Mariah, attended a powwow in another part of the grounds. After a day of touring the bluffs and taking in some scenic views of the lake we met up and headed off in search of dinner to cap our day.
Ultimately we ended up at Tom’s Blue Moon Bar-B-Que. I knew I was going to like it from the moment I drove up and saw the familiar façade so characteristic of pit barbecue joints across the South. Inside was reminiscent of an old country store with knick-knacks, retro advertisements, and autographed photos of previous diners adorning the walls.
The menu was standard Southern ‘Cue and we each tried a different approach to taking on the smoky goodness. Mariah had a junior plate with one meat and a side. Donielle stepped up to a two-meater while I tested my limits with three meats and two sides. Topped all off with very tasty hoe cakes, my favorite bread so far, and a Blue Moon adult beverage for myself, soft drinks for everyone else.
I haven’t had the chance to head back through Lebanon but if I do, and have time for a meal, Tom’s Blue Moon Bar-B-Que is where you’ll find me. Stop on by, I’ll keep a seat saved for ya.
